Randy Lee and JT are looking to dig up the money to purchase the car made famous by Burt Reynolds "Smokey" and to do so they need to rob the bank with Randy's newly acquired chainsaw. It's was purloined from Farmer Bender's equipment shed and he is far from happy about it.


This was a crazy short read that just tried too hard to be funny all the time. It made me laugh out loud in places, but at others the jokes felt a touch forced. It's not a book that is aiming for realism, so there is no point judging the characters on that. Randy Lee and JT's relationship is mostly abusive with brotherly love thrown in.


Being the forgiving reader that I am, I'll stick around for the sequel and see if I like that any better.


Synopsis: Randy Lee Travis and James Taylor Gunderson are white-trash outlaws. These men share a passion for old Burt Reynolds movies, and they share a dream.

If they can scrape the cash together, their dream just might come true.

Author Spotlight - Tom Leins

I've been reminded to post this one as I was back in the office today and saw the museum cabinet containing old weapons including a samurai type sword and police truncheons, which always makes me think of Joe Rey. It just feels like something that is crying out for Joe Rey to pilfer and use against the various weirdos and whackjobs that come into his periphery. Leins is a curious case for me as a reader. He was one of the first indie authors I read when he opened the Wrestle Maniacs anthology containing a multitude of stories based around the world of pro wrestling, which Leins then built upon with The Good Book (see below). This led me to seek out his Paignton Noir books, but the first couple left me cold. Something called me back to them though and I really found my groove with them as the story continued and Rey got in further scrapes. Coldwater by Tom Pitts My rating: 4 of 5 stars Hopefully you've peaceful and civil neighbours during these tough times, unfortunately in Coldwater the new neighbours are a group of drug addicts content on raising hell. This is the scenario Gary and Linda Carson find themselves in and it only devolves from there. This is a fast paced and rollercoaster novel that takes the story much further and in a different direction than I imagined. It's a plot driven thrill ride that you won't want to miss with billionaires, blood and really bad intentions. I really want a Calper Dennings prequel novel with a salacious Hollywood based case now.
